General Quick Information

  • Single-component, polymer-modified bitumen thick coating (PMB)
  • Elastic and crack-bridging
  • Environmentally friendly and solvent-free
  • High heat and aging resistance
  • Layer thickness up to 7 mm in one application

Product Type

Single-component, polymer-modified bitumen thick coating with polystyrene foam filling for waterproofing against moisture and non-pressurized water.

Application Area

The 1K thick bitumen coating is used for waterproofing floor slabs, earth-contact walls and interior waterproofing of basement rooms against rising moisture. Its thixotropic consistency enables a layer thickness of up to 7 mm in one application. It meets the requirements of DIN EN 15814, DIN 18533 and the test principles for polymer-modified thick bitumen coatings and is suitable for both new construction and renovations.

Properties

The 1K thick bitumen coating is characterized by its high elasticity and crack-bridging properties, even at low temperatures. It remains permanently flexible and resistant to mechanical stress and temperature fluctuations, making it a durable waterproofing solution. Its exceptional heat and aging resistance ensures long-lasting protection.

Due to its thixotropic consistency, the coating can be efficiently applied in thick layers and enables fast processing. It adheres reliably to mineral and bituminous substrates and provides a permanent protective layer against penetrating moisture. Additionally, the thick bitumen coating can be applied with or without reinforcement layer, depending on the project requirements.

Thanks to its excellent adhesive strength, it remains permanently bonded and offers a highly effective waterproofing solution for various applications in building and civil engineering. The coating is solvent-free and therefore environmentally friendly and low-odor in application.

Due to its high resistance to external influences, the 1K thick bitumen coating is particularly suitable for earth-contact components, floor slabs and wall connections. Its ability to apply thick layers in one pass reduces work effort and accelerates processing. This makes it ideal for applications in new construction as well as for the renovation of existing waterproofing.

Substrate

The substrate must be load-bearing, clean and free of loose components, oils or fats. Before application, larger depressions, open butt joints and unevenness should be leveled with suitable mortar or a scratch coating. Edges must be chamfered and grooves rounded to ensure uniform layer thickness. Thorough cleaning of the substrate ensures that the thick bitumen coating adheres optimally.

For better bonding with the substrate, the sandroplast emulsion primer (solvent-free) is necessary. This improves adhesion and facilitates processing, especially on highly absorbent or porous substrates. Smooth or highly compacted surfaces should be mechanically roughened to optimize the connection between substrate and coating. Processing may only take place on sufficiently dry surfaces to ensure perfect waterproofing.

Processing

The 1K thick bitumen coating is delivered ready to use and can be applied with a trowel, spatula or float. It is recommended to apply the coating in at least two layers. For the floor/wall connection area, the material should be extended beyond the face of the floor slab. Work interruptions should not occur at building corners or edges, and the material must be feathered out at transitions.

During processing, care must be taken that the ambient temperature is at least +5 °C. Optimal temperatures are between +5°C and +30°C. Do not process in frost or direct sunlight.

Freshly applied layers must be protected from moisture, rain and frost. The complete drying time is approx. 24 hours per layer depending on weather conditions.

After complete drying, the waterproofing must be provided with a protective layer in accordance with DIN EN 15814 and DIN 18533 to avoid mechanical damage. The protective layer may only be applied after complete curing of the thick bitumen coating. Suitable materials include, for example, studded membranes with sliding layer, expanded or extruded polystyrene rigid foam panels as well as foam glass panels. The protective layer prevents damage from earth movements or mechanical stress during backfilling and ensures long-term waterproofing function.

Frequently Asked Questions

Material Consumption

Consumption varies depending on water impact class: W1-E and W4-E (soil moisture & splash water): 3.70 l/m² at 3mm dry layer thickness. W3-E (splash water at wall base): 3.94 l/m² at 4mm dry layer thickness. Scratch coating: 1-2 l/m². According to DIN 18533 Part 3, the minimum dry layer thickness must be increased by at least 25%.
