General Quick Information

  • Fast-drying - dry in <1 hour
  • Solvent-based bitumen primer
  • Excellent adhesion on bituminous and mineral substrates
  • Application methods: brushing, rolling or spraying
  • For outdoor use only

Product Type

Thin, solvent-based and low-odor primer based on bitumen.

Application Area

The sandroplast fast-drying bitumen primer ensures excellent adhesion and deep anchoring for subsequent hot or cold liquid adhesive coatings, topcoats and bitumen-based coatings as well as for all bitumen membranes with a significantly reduced drying time. Ideal and high-quality primer for structural and roof waterproofing.

The fast-drying primer is versatile and suitable for all common mineral substrates as well as for substrates with residues of bitumen coatings or bitumen roofing membranes.

The sandroplast fast-drying bitumen primer itself has no sealing effect without using another product for waterproofing.

Properties

The fast-drying primer meets the requirements of DIN 18533-2. This fast-drying bitumen primer is characterized by a particularly short drying time. Depending on weather and substrate conditions, the drying time is less than 1 hour. Experience shows that the drying time is significantly reduced under positive weather and substrate conditions. Thanks to its excellent adhesion on various substrates, it ensures a reliable and permanent connection.

The product can be applied using different application methods. Furthermore, the low-odor property facilitates processing.

With its low viscosity and excellent penetration capability, this primer can optimally consolidate almost all common construction substrates. It penetrates deep into porous and absorbent materials, binds dust and loose particles, and balances different absorbencies. This makes it an optimal bonding agent for subsequent bitumen products.

In addition to these specific advantages, the bitumen-based primer has general properties that underline its effectiveness and versatility. It not only serves as a bonding agent between the substrate and the bitumen waterproofing and improves the stability of the substrate, but its water-repellent properties improve moisture penetration while its elasticity compensates for movements and stresses in the substrate.

Furthermore, this bitumen primer offers reliable protection against corrosion on metallic substrates. It is both frost and UV resistant and, after curing, is resistant to weather influences such as rain.

In summary, this fast-drying bitumen-based primer offers a quick and effective solution for waterproofing work in construction. As a primer, it improves the adhesion, stability and durability of bitumen waterproofing and reliably protects the substrate from moisture and weather influences, which significantly extends the service life of the entire waterproofing.

Substrate

All substrates must be firm, load-bearing and free from separating substances such as release agents, dust or dirt.

There are two simple methods to check the condition of the substrate: The wipe test - Wipe your hand or a clean cloth over the substrate. No components should detach from the substrate and your hand should remain clean. The scratch test - This method is used to determine sinter layers or hollow areas on otherwise solid substrates, which must be professionally removed.

The substrate must be free from burrs or sharp-edged irregularities such as mortar, concrete protrusions or stone offsets. Protruding edges and depressions must be removed. In addition, the substrate must be textured and absorbent. For solvent-based bitumen coating materials, a dry substrate is required.

Before the subsequent layers are applied, the primer must be completely dried or ventilated.

Processing

The substrate must be dry, clean, load-bearing and grease-free. Loose and separating components as well as defective concrete and plaster areas, cracks and holes must be repaired beforehand with suitable material. A finely textured substrate is a prerequisite for the subsequent coating.

The primer is applied by brushing, spraying or rolling. The product should be stirred before processing. Before the subsequent coating can be applied, the primer must be sufficiently dried or ventilated. Freshly applied coating can be damaged or washed off in heavy rain.

IMPORTANT: For outdoor use only! The processor is obliged to check the suitability and application possibilities for the intended purpose.
